Laurel and Hardy came to Liverpool on all three post-war stage tours. The
first time was w/c 19 May 1947, when they packed out the
Liverpool Empire at each and every show, with hundreds more being turned
away. They returned in 1952, w/c 19 May, but all the exhuberance
of the first visit was absent, and they scarcely made the newspapers. On
the third visit, w/c 26 October 1953, Laurel & Hardy were even
more
poorly received, and were described in reviews as being "dated." They stayed
at the Aldelphi Hotel, in Lime Street, on each occasion. |
