This publication - "The Lighter Side of LAUREL & HARDY" - is termed a 'bookazine' - as it is too thin for a book, but too thick for a magazine. It comes in at 132 pages, on heavy high-gloss paper.

The big fear with any Laurel & Hardy publication is that it may have been written by someone whose only information was cut and pasted from Internet websites. We are delighted to inform you that this was written by someone "who knew his 'ardy from his el-Boys."

Although it is a potted history of Stan and Ollie, from life to death, there are many diversions along the way which take us to new and interesting aspects of the Boys' careers and private lives. Topics include: The Solo Films, Shorts, Features, Forties, and Foreign releases - which ends with a very useful Filmography of the Laurel & Hardy films. Then comes some fantastic Gallery pages showing candid shots, deleted scenes, off-camera shots, and gag-shots.

Refreshingly, there are also some excellent feature articles, covering the UK, US, and European stage tours Of Laurel and Hardy; plus an excellent section on "Collecting Laurel & Hardy Memorabilia." In the later pages we get more photo-galleries of Stan and Babe at play; with their wives; and in their twilight years. And to round it all off there are four great double-page reprints from 1930s film magazines.

Throughout, the text is punctuated with new information, and amusing side comments; as are the captions, which one must take time to read fully. The overall presentation, layout, and graphics are stunning.

"The Lighter Side of LAUREL & HARDY" is richly laced with almost 300 photos and illustrations, - many of them previously unseen, and all accompanied by informative captions. It is a perfect introduction to anyone not too familiar with Laurel & Hardy in print, whilst still containing more than enough new material to satisfy even the most ardent buff. Highly recommend!
