DAVE WYATT'S ARCHIVE
|
|
The Sons of the Desert are currently grouping together, to try and re-build the Archive which popular and ever-present Son Dave Wyatt recently lost. What we can do is check our own archives, and donate copies to "DAVE'S ARCHIVE." At the moment you are only PLEDGING items. PLEASE DON'T SEND THEM just yet. At a later date we will do a stock-take, to find out exactly what he needs, or doesn't need, before asking you to mail anything.
Below is an INVENTORY of what has been pledged so far. Please check it out at regular intervals, so that you don't end up duplicating any items we already have. Email you pledges to me - "A.J" Marriot - at:
lahbritishtours@aol.com (please type "DAVE'S ARCHIVE" in the subject box, otherwise it may get deleted as spam.)
What I think would please David most is, obviously, ALL the LAUREL & HARDY FILMS (Yes! Even the "lost" ones!!). A good starting point would be the DVD box-set released by Universal a few years ago. But there are so many more: the L&H films from the 'forties, plus all the Laurel solos, and the Hardy solos. Do you have copies of these you could donate?
David is also a big fan, and film collector of CHARLIE CHAPLIN, and shows films at the Charlie Chaplin Appreciation Society meetings. So, likewise, the archive is looking for CHAPLIN FILMS (on DVD and VHS only). He also loves WILL HAY.
And then there is David's huge collection of reference books which was lost. So, again, we are looking for copies of, firstly, BOOKS on LAUREL & HARDY, and BOOKS ON CHAPLIN, then on to other SILENT FILM STARS and FILM REFERENCE BOOKS. Again, check the Inventory for the current list before pledging. If you are an author of any books which fit the criteria, how about sending a signed copy, dedicate "To David" and with a nice message.
Other nostalgic items for David to receive would be FOOTAGE OF PAST LAUREL & HARDY CONVENTIONS which he attended - especially if he is in the footage. (VHS tapes would be acceptable, or transfer to DVD if you have the means).
Then of course there are PHOTOGRAPHS. Do you have any of David, which you can send copies of? Where possible, please supply details of the photo such as "Where taken; when; who's in the picture." These will be on display on a different website: Stephen Neale is hosting them on his website: go to this link.
"The Crazy World of Laurel and Hardy"
You can also send in prints, or put larger quantities onto a CD, as jpegs, and mail to Stephen Neale via the link on his website: When sending emails please write "DAVE'S GALLERY" in the subject box, so that Stephen will know it's not spam.
You may be able to think of other items to send, but bear in mind that David is an archivist. He likes FACTS and FILMS, in preference to "toys and dolls."
