LAUREL and HARDY
Birmingham Hippodrome
Box-Office Card - ENGLAND
w/c 30 November 1953
In November 1953, American student John McCabe was walking past the Birmingham Hippodrome when he saw a billing for LAUREL and HARDY in 'A New Comedy Mirthquake': "BIRDS OF A FEATHER." Not having heard of this film he enquired at the box-office, only to find to his extreme delight that it wasn't a film at all - it was a sketch, being performed LIVE ON STAGE by LAUREL and HARDY "in PERSON". After the show, McCabe went backstage and struck up a friendship with the two comedians, a relationship that continued when all three returned to America. The result was the writing of four books by McCabe, plus the founding of the world-wide Laurel and Hardy Appreciation Society.
This poster is a first generation reproduction of an original box-office card from the Birmingham Hippodrome, a poster without which the Laurel and Hardy Appreciation Society might not exist. You can enjoy the pleasure of seeing Laurel and Hardy billed "LIVE ON STAGE" by purchasing this box-office card.
